In the footsteps of Piero della Francesca
The itinerary to discover the works of Piero della Francesca in the province of Arezzo, goes through the Valtiberina, touching the towns of Monterchi, Sansepolcro and the city of Arezzo. In Monterchi Piero della Francesca created the extraordinary fresco of the Madonna del Parto, the image of the virgin in the exaltation of motherhood. In Arezzo, the Basilica di San Francesco preserves the “Legend of the True Cross”, the masterpiece that the artist carried out between about 1452 and 1466.
In the Museo Civico in Sansepolcro, the artist’s birthplace, we find the artist’s four splendid works: the Polyptych of the Misericordia, the Resurrection, San Giuliano and San Ludovico.
In Arezzo, the Basilica di San Francesco preserves the “Legend of the True Cross”, the masterpiece that the artist carried out between about 1452 and 1466. This is considered his masterpiece. In the Cathedral we can admire “Santa Maria Maddalena”, one of the most beautiful figures painted by Piero.
